Gem Diamonds To Restart Operations At Letseng Mine In Lesotho

24th Apr 2020 10:57

(Alliance News) - Gem Diamonds Ltd said Friday that despite the lockdown in Lesotho being extended until May 5, the government has allowed the re-opening of diamond mines in the country.

As a result, the diamond producer will reopen the Letseng mine on Monday next week, in accordance with a phased ramp-up plan, and in compliance with health & safety protocols for preventing the spread of Covid-19.

Due to the travel and other restrictions, Gem Diamonds has completed two flexible tender sales processes for Letseng diamonds, which will continue throughout the period.

Looking ahead, Gem Diamonds will provide an update guidance for 2020 once it has completed its assessment of the operational and financial impacts of the outbreak.

Shares in Gem Diamonds were up 8.9% at 39.00 pence on Friday in London.
