Gem Diamonds Promotes Operating Chief Velloza To Deputy CEO

2nd May 2018 10:39

LONDON (Alliance News) - Gem Diamonds Ltd on Wednesday said it has moved its current Chief Operating Officer Johnny Velloza to the position of deputy chief executive.

The move is effective from Wednesday and will see him join the board at the start of July.

On Thursday last week, the diamond miner reported a 32% increase in diamonds recovered in the first quarter of 2018 to 33,526 carats, with grades and diamond prices also increasing year-on-year.

In March, it sold the 'Lesotho Legend' diamond from its Letseng mine in Lesotho for USD40.0 million. Found in January, Gem said at the time is believed it to be the fifth biggest gem-quality stone every discovered.

Shares were up 0.2% on Wednesday at a price of 99.80 pence each.
