GE Agrees To Help DS Smith's Italian Unit To Reduce Paper Mill Costs

23rd Jul 2020 12:28

(Alliance News) - General Electric Co on Thursday said it has secured a new order from DS Smith Paper Italia Srl for its LM6000PF aeroderivative gas turbine and a seven-year service agreement.

The contract was signed for DS Smith's paper mill located in Lucca, Italy.

The Boston-headquartered industrial conglomerate said the paper mill is currently powered by two of GE's aeroderivative gas turbines, one of which was modernised in 2015.

The additional GE aeroderivative unit will help DS Smith increase plant efficiency of 2%, with a significant reduction of emissions, while assuring steam supply for the industrial process.

Stefano Andreotti, project director for DS Smith, DS Smith Paper Italia Srl, said: "We decided to rely on GE's proven aeroderivative gas turbine technology to improve the efficiency, power output and lifetime of our power generation assets, while reducing the cost of electricity and improving our plant's profitability."

GE shares closed 0.3% higher in New York on Thursday at USD7.06 each and gained a further 0.6% in the pre-market trading. DS Smith shares were trading 1.3% lower in London at 280.15 pence each.
