Games Workshop First Half Profits Rise On Warhammer Hobby Success

7th Dec 2018 09:06

LONDON (Alliance News) - Games Workshop Group PLC said Friday its early estimates show an increase in sales and operating profit in the first half of its financial year on the back of the success of its Warhammer brand.

In the six months ended December 2, the FTSE 250-listed wargames manufacturer and retailer said estimates indicated revenue of approximately GBP124 million. This compares to revenue of GBP108.9 million a year before.

Games Workshop also estimated its operating profit for the period at approximately GBP41 million, up modestly from an operating profit of GBP38.8 million for the year-ago period.

The company is best known as the developer and publisher of Warhammer 40,000 and Warhammer Age of Sigmar, both of which are tabletop wargames.

"These results show the Warhammer Hobby is in great shape in our core markets. We have built on the progress we made last year and the results are considerable given the backdrop of major projects," Games Workshop said.

Games Workshop declared a 30 pence per share dividend for the period, flat year-on-year, which will be paid on January 25.

Shares in Games Workshop were up 4.7% at 3,135.00p on Friday morning.
