Galliford Says Remedial Work Nearing Completion On Edinburgh Schools

12th Apr 2016 06:37

LONDON (Alliance News) - Galliford Try PLC said Tuesday it is completing remedial work to remedy defects in four schools in Edinburgh, after one of the schools lost part of an external wall during a storm earlier this year.

This comes after seventeen schools in Edinburgh were unable to open after the Easter break due to fears for pupil safety.

The house builder and construction group said it has contractual responsibility for four of the seventeen schools which were built as part of Edinburgh's public private partnership contract schools programme between 2002 and 2005, as Galliford acquired Miller Construction, which was one of the builders subcontractors for the construction, in 2014.

Galliford said one of the four schools it is responsible for, Oxgangs Primary School, had lost part of an external wall in Storm Gertrude, which hit the UK in January, and Galliford said remedial work required to remedy defects in all four schools is "nearing completion".

Galliford added the costs are not material to the group.

"Galliford Try takes its role as a responsible contractor very seriously, and the safety of the pupils and staff is paramount," the company said.
