(Alliance News) - Fulcrum Metals PLC on Tuesday said it has identified gallium in all assays of the available 15 holes to date at its Teck-Hughes and Sylvanite gold tailings projects in Ontario, Canada.
The Canada-focused exploration firm said the gallium averages at around 17 grammes per tonne, and has the potential to "significantly increase" the value of its prospective projects, positioning them "as a sustainable domestic source of gold and critical minerals for Canada".
Canada currently has no domestic production of gallium, with China accounting for around 98% of gallium production globally.
"Our focus remains on gold, however the identification of critical minerals as potential additional products at our tailings projects could deliver tangible value at a time of a changing political landscape in which Canada and the West are looking to reduce the reliance of supply from China," said Chief Executive Officer Ryan Mee.
"We will need to carry out more detailed sampling and metallurgical testing to ascertain and evaluate the potential impact of these critical minerals and others not yet assayed for, which will be factored into the next steps of optimising and scaling the initial proven concept at Teck Hughes."
Shares in Fulcrum Metals were down 3.2% at 4.60 pence each in London on Tuesday afternoon. The stock is down 70% over the past year.
