Frontier IP Investee Gets UK Grant For Raspberry-Picking Robot

1st Apr 2019 14:05

LONDON (Alliance News) - Frontier IP Group PLC portfolio company Fieldworks Robotics has won a grant from the UK government worth over GBP500,000, Frontier IP said Monday.

The grant, from the Innovate UK Industrial Strategy Challenge, will help Fieldwork Robotics' development of a raspberry-picking robot.

Fieldwork Robotics, which was spun out from the University of Plymouth, will get GBP547,250 towards a project costing GBP671,484.

Frontier IP has a 28% stake in Fieldwork Robotics, which, it said, is focusing on raspberries as they are hard to difficult to pick, being delicate and easily damaged.

Frontier IP Chief Executive Neil Crabb said: "The government has identified robotics and artificial intelligence as key sectors to support as part of its industrial strategy launched last year. Fieldwork Robotics' technology has the potential to play an important role in improving agricultural productivity.

"We're very pleased with this award, which provides further validation of the technology it is developing."

Frontier IP shares were 2.0% lower on Monday afternoon at 80.40 pence each.
