Frontier IP Builds 32% Interest In NTPE To Develop Printing Technology

7th Aug 2018 12:45

LONDON (Alliance News) - Consultancy services provider Frontier IP Group PLC on Tuesday announced its first Portuguese spin out NTPE, which will be developing novel technologies to print electronics onto paper.

Frontier IP said it will take 32% stake in NTPE, which has been incorporated to develop and commercialise the work of a research team at the Universidade Nova de Lisboa.

The company said more than 65 researchers were developing the Paper-E technology to print electronic circuits, sensors and semiconductors onto any cellulose-based paper.

The technology replaces the silicon used in electronics with eco-friendly metal oxides and cellulose, to create 'inks' that can be used in specially adapted printers.

Frontier IP said there is a potential to use Paper-E in fraud prevention as there is an option to store data in the cellulose. Microchips can be replaced with electronic pages in passports and other identity documents which need to be tracked.

"We're very pleased to take a material stake in a company developing such ground-breaking technology," said Frontier IP Chief Executive Neil Crabb.

"Paper-E has already attracted strong interest from a wide range of potential partners," added Crabb.

Shares in Frontier IP were trading 4.8% higher on Tuesday at 76.50 pence each.
