Frontier Developments Posts "Record" Year Ahead Of Next Game Release

4th Sep 2019 10:23

(Alliance News) - Video game developer Frontier Developments PLC on Wednesday reported a "record" year, with profit and revenue both surging.

During the 12 months to May, Frontier made its biggest game launch to-date, Jurassic World Evolution, which achieved two million sales in the first seven months on release.

There have been a number of new updates to both that game and older titles such as Planet Coaster and Elite Dangerous, Frontier added.

Revenue for the year more than doubled to GBP89.7 million from GBP34.2 million, while pretax profit was multiplied to GBP19.4 million from GBP2.8 million.

Chief Executive David Braben said: "I am delighted to report a record level of financial performance, which reflects the skill and hard work of our talented team and the support of our players around the world.

"We continue to nurture and enhance all three of our existing titles (Elite Dangerous, Planet Coaster and Jurassic World Evolution), and I look forward to the release of our fourth highly anticipated game, Planet Zoo, later this year."

Planet Zoo, a game in which players can manage their own zoo, is due for release on November 5.

Frontier expects "considerable success" from the game, but it has said the boost to revenue will unlikely be as strong as that from Jurassic World Evolution.

Shares in the company were 6.8% lower on Wednesday morning in London at 1,038.00 pence each.
