(Alliance News) - Fresnillo PLC said on Thursday it has hired Myriam Guadalupe De la Vega as an independent non-executive director, effective from May 29.
The Mexican gold and silver miner also said Non-Executive Director Jaime Lomelin retired from the board on Wednesday. He will continue to act as an adviser to the board and to Chair Alberto Bailleres.
Guadalupe De la Vega is currently chief executive of Almacenes Distribuidores de la Frontera, which owns and operates a chain of convenience stores, gas stations, and medium format supermarkets in the north of Mexico. She is also managing director of real estate company Maximus Inmobiliaria. She previously served as managing director of Mexican beer distributor Carta Blanca de Cd Juarez
"I am delighted that Guadalupe De la Vega has agreed to join the board. Her extensive executive experience in different Mexican companies and her commitment to community activities will bring valuable and useful perspectives," said Fresnillo Chair Bailleres.
"I am grateful to Jaime Lomelin for his wise counsel and valuable contributions to the board over many years. I am delighted that he will still be available to advise us and would like to take the opportunity to thank him for his considerable service to the company," he added.
Fresnillo shares closed 3.3% lower at 685.20 pence each on Thursday in London.
