LONDON (Alliance News) - Fresnillo PLC on Wednesday reported an incident at the Saucito gold and silver mine in Mexico on Sunday, but doesn't expect any large financial hit or loss of production.
Fresillo said a pipeline was ruptured while non-toxic solution was being pumped to the tailings dam from the beneficiation plant.
"Following the incident, Fresnillo immediately informed the authorities, who have concluded in their initial review that the situation is of limited scale, and as a result operations have not been and will not be suspended. 85% of the affected area has already been remediated and the company expects to conclude all the remediation activities by Friday," Fresnillo said in a statement.
An investigation into the reasons behind this incident is underway, Fresnillo added.
In a statement in Spanish, the Mexican Environmental Authority said it is continuing to monitor the case until the environmental conditions are restored to how they were before the incident.
Shares in Fresnillo were down 0.1% at 668.00 pence on Wednesday afternoon.
