French Police Rescue Hostages Held In Mall

13th Jul 2015 09:30

PARIS (Alliance News) - French special forces on Monday rescued 18 people who had been taken hostage by three armed men in a shopping mall north of Paris, local television BFMTV reported.

Police were searching for the three men, who were able to flee after taking hostages in a Primark branch in Villeneuve-la-Garenne. Primark is owned by FTSE 100-listed Associated British Foods PLC.

"Eighteen people were evacuated at about 10:30am," a police source told the French news agency AFP, confirming footage shown by BFMTV. "One among them fainted but no one sustained injuries."

The broadcaster said the hostage situation may have been part of an armed robbery attempt.
