PARIS (Alliance News) - French consumer confidence remained unchanged in April, the statistical office Insee reported Wednesday.
The consumer sentiment index came in at 94 in April, the same as in March. It was forecast to rise to 95.
Households' opinion of their past personal financial situation held steady for the third consecutive month. The indicator stood at -25.
Their opinion of their personal financial situation in the next twelve months dropped slightly. The corresponding balance lost 1 point to -14, the lowest level since February 2015.
Meanwhile, households' balance of opinion on their current saving capacity picked up somewhat after hitting its lowest level since March 2012. The index rose to 9 from 6 in March.
The indicator for expected saving capacity improved to -9 from -10.
Households' opinion of their expected standard of living declined for the fourth consecutive month. The corresponding balance slid 1 point to -38, its lowest level since January 2015.
At -58, the balance on the past standard of living has leveled off.
After a slight decline in March, households' fears concerning unemployment have been reignited in April. The index rose to 49 from 43 in March.
