Frasers Says "Unlikely" Staff Underpaid Due To Unpaid Breaks

23rd Jul 2020 19:07

(Alliance News) - Frasers Group PLC on Thursday distanced itself from accusations that it has underpaid staff.

The Guardian newspaper earlier on Thursday reported that Sports Direct warehouse staff were paid below minimum wage, with workers not allowed to leave the premises during their 30-minute breaks. The Guardian reported that some employment law experts believe this should be classed as paid working time.

Frasers said: "We of course take any comments about our workplace conditions very seriously and will investigate them as appropriate, in line with all applicable laws and regulations. We should add that we consider on advice that it is extremely unlikely that anyone employed by us has been underpaid because of the treatment of unpaid rest breaks.

"We welcome the Guardian's acknowledgment regarding the improvements made in the warehouse."

Shares in the company closed 1.4% higher at 286.00 pence each in London on Thursday.
