(Alliance News) - Irish paper packaging firm Smurfit Kappa PLC has appointed a former Mexican government minister to its board, it said on Thursday.
Lourdes Melgar is joining as a non-executive director effective from the start of January.
She has formerly served as the minister for both foreign affairs and energy in Mexico, in total holding government positions for 16 years. Dublin-based Smurfit Kappa said Melgar also has "extensive" private sector experience.
Chair Irial Finan said: "We look forward to broadening the expertise and diversity of the board with the appointment of Lourdes as an independent non-executive director.
"Lourdes' extensive career in energy, sustainability and business in Latin America will add valuable insight to the board."
Shares were 0.1% lower on Thursday in London at a price of 2,714.00 pence each.
