Flybe Shares Rise As It Starts Flying From London City Airport

27th Oct 2014 08:23

LONDON (Alliance News) - Low-cost airline Flybe Group PLC saw its shares rise early Monday after it started flying from London City Airport, and got a financial guarantee for a route between Gatwick and Cornwall.

In a statement, the airline said it has begun operations on new routes from Aberdeen, Belfast City, Edinburgh, Exeter, Dublin and Inverness to London City Airport. Fares start at GBP34.99 one way, and it expects to fly over half a million passengers a year on the routes. It will also start operating a weekend service between London City and Amsterdam on November 1.

It will up to two flights a day between Inverness and London City, up to three flights a day on the routes to Aberdeen, Exeter and Belfast, and up to four flights a day on the Edinburgh and Dublin routes.

"This can only benefit our brand profile and reach over the longer term as knowledge of Flybe's role in connecting the UK regions and Ireland with London becomes more widespread," Chief Executive Saad Hammad said in a statement.

Flybe said it has also gone into partnership with Club Workspace, meaning inbound London City Airport business travellers will get VIP access to Club Workspace's network of co-working business clubs across London. Each Club Workspace facility has free wi-fi, café and meeting room facilities. The facilities are located at Waterloo, Chancery Lane, Kennington, London Bridge, Clerkenwell, Islington, Chiswick and Bethnal Green.

Separately, the airline said it welcomed the news from Cornwall Country Council and the Department for Transport that the government will provide a financial guarantee for the full four-year duration of a Public Service Obligation for the Newquay to London Gatwick route.

Flybe said it has been working alongside Newquay Airport, Cornwall Council and local Members of Parliament to gain PSO funding for the route, which will operate up to three times a day.

Flybe shares were up 5.0% at 115.75 pence early Monday, one of the best-performing stocks on the London market.
