LONDON (Alliance News) - FirstGroup PLC and National Express PLC both said Friday they have been short-listed for the ScotRail franchise competition by the Scottish Government, a 10-year franchise to run the lines that FirstGroup currently operates.
"As a Scottish company, we are proud to run Scotland's railway and proud of our success in growing the business," said Managing Director of UK Rail Vernon Barker in a statement.
National Express said that it had pre-qualified for the ScotRail bidding short-list.
The current ScotRail franchise agreement, which covers the inter-city, regional and suburban rail services on Scottish Rail as well as the Caledonian Sleeper services expires March 31, 2015.
Shares in FirstGroup were trading up 0.90 pence at 116.40p Friday afternoon. National Express was down 1.2% at 258.4p.
