(Alliance News) - First Derivatives PLC on Monday said Chief Executive and founder Brian Conlon has died following a diagnosis of cancer.
Conlon's diagnosis was first announced in mid-May, but the trading software firm said he would be continuing as CEO during treatment. However, he died on Sunday.
Conlon founded the company in 1996, having previously worked at KPMG and in the risk management division of Morgan Stanley International, in London, before leaving to set up First Derivatives.
Executive Chair Seamus Keating said: "Brian built a world-class business in First Derivatives. His drive, ambition and determination inspired all who had the privilege to work with him. This news is a profound shock to all of us."
"We offer Brian's family our sincerest condolences and ask for privacy on their behalf at this sad and most difficult of times."
First Derivatives has begun a process to appoint a new CEO, it added. Shares were 4.0% lower on Monday morning at 3,005.00 pence each.
