(Alliance News) - Filtronic PLC on Tuesday announced it has won a "significant" contract from an undisclosed new "major" UK defence customer for the supply of battlefield radio communications hardware valued at more than GBP1 million.
The Leeds-based antenna manufacturer said the contract will involve the design and supply of field units over a 12-month period, with the final product delivery expected to begin in the the second half of 2021.
Shares in Filtronic were up 9.4% at 875 pence in London on Tuesday morning.
Filtronic said the contract will allow it to demonstrate the ability to provide turnkey radio frequency communication solutions for critical defence programmes. It also will develop a prototype solution which will transition into low volume manufacturing, it added.
"We are delighted to have secured this significant new order as it underlines the customer's confidence in our ability to deliver this type of challenging and complex programme. With our deep understanding of [radio frequency] communication and our in-house design and manufacturing facility, it is pleasing to start the calendar year with a contract win for both a new product and new customer. Filtronic is well positioned to win further UK defence contracts," said Chief Executive Richard Gibbs.
Filtronic will publish its half-year results for the six months ended November 30 on February 2.
