Fastjet's New Route Postponed Temporarily

26th Sep 2013 10:25

LONDON (Alliance News) - Fastjet PLC, the low-cost airline operating in Africa, Thursday said the first flight on a new route between Johannesburg and Dar es Salaam in Tanzania has been temporarily postponed after South African transport authorities asked for additional documentation before clearing the flights.

The first flight on the route was scheduled for Friday, but the company now hopes to have it up and running by mid-October.

"Although fastjet delivered these documents without delay, the South African Department of Transport has said it will take several days to process these documents, thus delaying the start of fastjet flights on this international route," it said in a statement.

"Administrative delays of this nature are not unusual in the markets in which we operate," Chief Executive Ed Winter said.

It said it didn't expect the delay to hit its financial results.

Fstjet shares were down 7.7% at 6 pence Thursday morning.
