LONDON (Alliance News) - Fastjet PLC Monday said its first flight outside Tanzania will get off the ground Friday after it got clearance from the South African Department of Transport.
Flights between Dar es Salaam in Tanzania and Johannesburg were supposed to start in September, but the low-cost African airline had to push back the date after South African transport officials asked for additional documentation before clearing the flights.
The first flight will now depart Friday at 0915 local time from Julius Nyerere airport in Dar es Salaam, starting the three times-a-week service. Frequency will be increased when demand dictates.
The airline said flying between Dar es Salaam and Johannesburg had been prohibitively expensive for many people, and it is offering a more affordable option.
Fastjet shares were down 3.9% at 4.2075 pence Monday morning.
