Fastjet September Passenger Numbers Up But Load Factor Declines

7th Oct 2014 08:17

LONDON (Alliance News) - Fastjet PLC Tuesday said its passenger numbers in September were higher year-on-year but said its load factor decreased in the period.

The company's Tanzania operations carried a total of 57,756 passengers in September, up 79% on the 32,322 carried a year earlier.

Its rolling passenger numbers for the 12 months to September rose 79% year-on-year, up to 513,345 from 287,378 last year.

However, Fastjet's load factor decreased by two percentage points in the period, down to 74% from 76% last year.

"I am delighted to see such strong total passenger numbers and high load factor for September compared to August, a peak travel month," said Ed Winter, the Chief Executive Officer and Interim Chairman of fastjet. Last month, Fastjet said its August load factor was 79%.

"Our capacity will continue to grow during October with increased frequency on the Entebbe and Kilimanjaro routes and we expect to see an increase in average utilisation per aircraft to 10.2 hours, closer to our target of 11.7 hours," Winter added.

Fastjet shares were down 4.2% to 1.15 pence.
