Fastjet Passenger Numbers Up In February, Fuel Costs Continue To Fall

9th Mar 2015 08:11

LONDON (Alliance News) - Fastjet PLC Monday said passenger numbers were up by half in February from a year earlier, although its planes were less full, and it also said its fuel costs continued to fall.

The low-cost African airlines, which has been expanding its route network, said its Tanzanian operation flew 52,801 passengers in February, up from 35,090 a year earlier, although load factor fell to 70% from 76%. For the 12 months to the end of February, it flew 639,367 passengers, up from 379,938 in the previous 12 months.

"As we approach Easter and peak summer months we will be adding even more capacity on existing routes and expanding our route network," Chief Executive Ed Winter said.

The company said it paid 13% less per gallon for fuel in February compared with January, and 37% less per gallon than in February 2014.

Fastjet shares were up 7.6% at 1.35 pence early Monday, making it one of the best-performing stocks on the AIM All-Share index.
