Fastjet Passenger Numbers Up Again In July

11th Aug 2014 10:05

LONDON (Alliance News) - African low-cost airline fastjet PLC Monday said it flew 52,839 passengers in July, up 69% from a year earlier due to new routes it is flying, while revenue per passenger increased 22% compared with June.

Capacity was up 8% from June as it flew 72,355 seats, Its load factor, a measure of how full its seats are, was 73%.

"I am particularly pleased that we have achieved such a high load factor and made significant unit revenue gains despite the fact that all but four days in the month fell within Ramadan, when both business and leisure activities decrease considerably," interim Chairman and Chief executive Ed Winter said.

The airline is expecting another uptick in capacity after it launched flights between Dar es Salaam in Tanzania and Harare in Zimbabwes. Last week, it said forward booking for the twice-weekly flights are "well ahead of management expectations," and as the first flights from Zimbabwe are already operating to full capacity, it has now added a third rotation.

It plans to double capacity utilisation between the first and third quarters of the year. July's 8% rise in capacity followed a 12% increase in June and 11% in May.
