LONDON (Alliance News) - Fastjet PLC on Monday reported a rise in passenger numbers and load factor in January.
The low-cost African carrier said it carried a total of 55,695 passengers in January, up from 31,258 carried a year earlier.
Its load factor in the month increased by 9 percentage points to 69% from 60% last year.
"January is traditionally the month of the year when airlines see the lowest consumer demand. We are therefore very pleased with our trading figures as we build upon our market leading position in Tanzania," said Fastjet Chief Executive Ed Winter.
"Year-on-year, the 78% increase in passengers carried in January is well ahead of the 53% increase in number of seats flown, producing a strong uplift in load factor," Winter added.
Shares in Fastjet were up 4.6% to 1.365 pence on Monday morning.
