Fastjet Passenger Numbers Rise As It Launches New Routes

9th Apr 2015 07:28

LONDON (Alliance News) - Fastjet PLC Thursday reported a 66% increase in the number of passengers it carried in March and a 3% increase in the load factor compared with the same month last year.

The low-cost airline said its operations in Tanzania carried 56,808 passengers in March, up 66% from 34,266 a year earlier, and achieved a load factor of 70% in March, against 67% a year earlier.

It also noted that 91% of flights arrived on time despite increased aircraft utilisation with additional flights added to the network.

"I am delighted to see our passenger numbers continue to rise year on year by 66%. This clearly demonstrates the growth that fastjet has achieved as our low-cost model continues to stimulate the Tanzanian air travel market," Chief Executive Ed Winter said in a statement.

"I am also pleased with the continued growth of our network and aircraft utilisation with the launch of two new routes in March. Linking Kilimanjaro and Mwanza provides a reliable and affordable service for these commercially important areas, whilst serving Entebbe from Kilimanjaro provides direct tourist and business opportunities between Tanzania and Uganda," he added.

Fastjet shares were trading down 2.7% at 1.06 pence early Thursday.
