Fastjet October Passenger Numbers Up, Load Factor Improves

5th Nov 2014 09:32

LONDON (Alliance News) - Fastjet PLC on Wednesday posted a big rise in passenger numbers and an improvement in its load factor in October, on the back of additional flights on its route from Tanzania to Entebbe in Uganda and as passenger numbers increased on its route to Harare in Zimbabwe.

The Africa-focused low-cost carrier, which is based in Tanzania, said its passenger numbers surged 77% to 59,830 in October, from 33,757 a year earlier. For the twelve months to end-October, the company said its passenger numbers increased 65% to 539,205 from 326,135 at the same point in 2013.

Its load factor for the month improved by 4 percentage points to 74% from 70% a year ago.

The company said 95% of its flights arrived on time during the month.

"I am delighted to see such strong total passenger numbers and high load factor for what is traditionally a low travel month. Passenger numbers grew month on month as we added additional flights to Entebbe and recorded strong passenger increases on our flights to Harare," said fastjet Chief Executive Officer and Interim Chairman Ed Winter.

Fastjet shares were down 3.2% to 0.75 pence on Wednesday.
