LONDON (Alliance News) - Low-cost African airline fastjet PLC Wednesday said it has commenced flights between Tanzania and Zimbabwe, marking the launch of its third international route in Africa.
The airline, which this week started its inaugural flight between Dar es Salaam in Tanzania and Harare in Zimbabwe, said forward booking for the twice-weekly flights are "well ahead of management expectations," and as the first flights from Zimbabwe are already operating to full capacity, it has now added a third rotation.
"With future bookings also looking strong we've decided to add a third rotation each Thursday which we expect to commence at the end of next month," said Chief Executive Ed Winter in a statement.
fastjet operates internationally from Dar es Salaam to Johannesburg, Lusaka and now Harare. It also has a significant Tanzanian domestic network including flights from Dar es Salaam to Mwanza, Kilimanjaro and Mbeya.
fastjet shares were up 1% in early trading Wednesday, at 1.60 pence.
