EQTEC Signs Upgrade Contract For Energy Facility At Spanish University

24th Feb 2020 12:22

(Alliance News) - EQTEC PLC said Monday it has been awarded a contract from the University of Extremadura in Badajoz, Spain.

EQTEC is based in Cork, Ireland, and mainly operates waste gasification to energy projects.

The contract is for the upgrade of the existing syngas research and development facility at the university.

As part of the contract, EQTEC will be responsible for purchasing, installing, commissioning and starting up the Fischer-Tropsch unit, which will allow for the production of biofuels using the group's own gasification process.

The contract was awarded following the successful funding application by the university to the European Regional Development Fund, for securing funding to test the production of biofuels from syngas.

The installation of the unit, along with the sign off from the university, is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2020, upon which the university will reimburse EQTEC out of the ERDF funding.

"Our continuous work with universities and technology research centres is a testament of our ambition to remain a technology thought leader in our sector and our desire to continue to develop our technology for wider applications," said Chief Technology Officer Yoel Aleman.

"Having access to the testing facility, where we could use the pure syngas produced from our advanced gasification technology to produce biofuels, should assist in validating to all future stakeholders the quality of our process and the versatility of application of our technology," Aleman added.

Shares in EQTEC were down 4.0% at 0.19 pence on Monday in London.
