Eden Research Secures New Authorisation For Bio-Fungicide In Australia

25th Aug 2020 09:54

(Alliance News) - Eden Research PLC on Tuesday said it has received Australian authorisation for the sale of its bio-fungicide Novellus for use on wine and table grapes

The sustainable crop protection and animal health firm said Novellus is used as a residue-free solution for botrytis cinerea, which is a fungal pathogen that affects many plant species and causes an annual economic loss of more than USD10 billion worldwide. It added that it is a very common disease in grapes and significantly harms crop yield and quality.

Novellus has already been approved by 11 other countries and is marketed as Mevalone in Europe and Africa.

Eden Research said the product will be distributed in Australia by its commercial partner Sipcam Oxon Spa.

"We are pleased to add another major wine producing country to the list of authorisations for our bio-fungicide. Australia's grape growing industry is sizeable and well-regarded, and Novellus will provide farmers with an efficacious solution to protect against botrytis, contributing to the industry's sustainable growth. The approval also represents a geographical expansion for our business, and we look forward to continuing our work with Sipcam to increase our activities in the region," said Chief Executive Sean Smith.

Shares in Eden were trading 1.1% lower at 7.00 pence each on Tuesday morning in London.
