LONDON (Alliance News) - UK-based low-cost airline easyJet PLC said Tuesday that it saw steady growth in passenger numbers for the month of December 2013, while load factor remained unchanged from the same month last year.
The number of passengers, which represents the number of earned seats flown, in December increased to 4.49 million from 4.34 million during the comparable month last year, up 3.5%.
Monthly load factor was 87.9%, unchanged from last year. The load factor represents the number of passengers as a proportion of the number of seats available for passengers.
On a rolling month basis, for the 12 months to December 2013, easyJet flew 61,332,803 passengers, up 3.6%. The rolling load factor for the 12 months was 89.3%, up from 88.9% for the comparable period.
Earned seats include seats that are flown whether or not the passenger makes the flight because easyJet is a no-refund airline, and once a flight has departed a no-show customer is generally not entitled to change flights or seek a refund. Earned seats also include seats provided for promotional purposes and to staff for business travel. No weighting of the load factor is carried out to recognise the effect of varying flight lengths.
