Dunelm names Sainsbury executive as new chief executive officer

7th Jul 2025 13:29

(Alliance News) - Dunelm Group PLC on Monday named Clodagh Moriarty as its new chief executive officer, with effect from October 1.

Moriarty will succeed Nick Wilkinson in the role at the Leicestershire, England-based company, which provides homewares including furniture and kitchenware. Wilkinson informed the board in February of his intention to retire after seven years in the chief executive seat.

Moriarty is currently the chief retail & technology officer at London-based food retailer J Sainsbury PLC, and has been at the business for 15 years, holding a variety of leadership roles.

Previously, she worked for nine years at management consulting firm Bain & Co. Moriarty has also been a non-executive director at housebuilder Taylor Wimpey PLC since June 2022.

"We are thrilled to be appointing Clo as our new CEO. She is a proven industry leader and brings an impressive range of skills and experience from one of the UK's largest retailers, where she has played a prominent role in developing the Sainsbury's offer to drive market share gains over a number of years," said Dunelm Chair Alison Brittain.

"Clo was the standout candidate from a strong field, and we are delighted that we have been able to attract such a talented and high calibre executive. As Nick hands on the baton, we are confident that her blend of retail, digital and strategic expertise will be a significant asset as we move into our next phase of growth as The Home of Homes."

Shares in Dunelm were up 0.1% at 1,142.00 pence in London on Monday afternoon. The stock has risen 1.5% over the past year.
