2nd Feb 2015 12:39

LONDON (Alliance News) - Dixons Carphone PLC confirmed Monday that it has signed a new mobile virtual network operator partnership deal with Hutchison Whampoa Ltd's Three network.

The Financial Times reported Sunday that the electrical retailer is planning to launch mobile services in the UK which will also offer internet connectivity to the "smart" home appliances it will sell in its stores.

Under the deal, Dixons Carphone will sell branded mobile tariffs, and will offer mobile connections to customers buying products as part of the 'internet of things'.

Dixons Carphone said Monday the new network is due to launch in spring, and will bring "innovative and highly personalised connectivity options for customers to enjoy."

"The announcement of our new network supports our strategic vision to continue to offer customers the widest range of connections, for when they are at home or on-the-go," said Chief Executive Officer Graham Stapleton in a statement.

Shares in Dixons Carphone are trading down 1.3% at 429.50 pence Monday afternoon.
