(Alliance News) - Directa Plus PLC said Friday that it has started a trial of resurfacing part of a UK road with G+ graphene-enhanced asphalt, containing graphene from Directa Plus.
The Graphene-based products supplier will conduct the trial with Italian road construction firm Iterchimica Srl, which will take place in Curbridge, Oxfordshire.
The trial will involve the laying of asphalt concrete with a graphene-enhanced super modifier over two upper layers of a 750 metre-long section or road.
The trial will compare asphalt concrete with the super modifier to a traditional asphalt surfacing, and assess service life, resistance to the passage of vehicles, deformation and permanent plastic deformation.
The trial is being conducted with the co-operation of Oxfordshire County Council, and Sweden-based construction firm Skanska AB as prime contractor.
"This trial is an important step for Directa Plus and Iterchemica, in partnership, in proving the business and use case for the next generation of graphene enhanced road surfaces. This technology will allow governments to supply better quality roads for drivers and other road users, at better value for money, and in a more environmentally sustainable way," said Chief Executive Officer Giulip Ceasareo.
Shares in Directa Plus - which is headquartered in London - were up 2.0% at 75.00 pence on Friday.
