(Alliance News) - Directa Plus PLC on Monday said it has been granted an EU patent for its graphene based Grafysorber water pollution treatment technology.
Shares in Directa ended 9.7% higher on Monday at 85.00 pence.
Grafysorber is intended to treat water and sludge with hydrocarbon contamination. The patent's field of application includes "produced waters, refinery waters, and, in general, any kind of wastewater which contains relatively low but still dangerous amount of hydrocarbons".
Directa, which produces and supplies products based on graphene nanoplatelets, said Grafysorber has use in the treatment of polluted water.
The technology is already being provided "to a number of European based oil and gas companies", Directa said.
Giulio Cesareo, founder & chief executive of Directa, said: "The award of a Europe-wide patent for our Grafysorber technology in the very large oil and gas sector potentially increases our addressable market significantly. Our success in the environmental sector is a reflection of our ability to introduce graphene derived products to large existing markets."
