LONDON (Alliance News) - Deltex Medical Group PLC said Tuesday it has launched a new training aide, an oesophageal Doppler patient simulator.
Deltex Medical manufactures and markets CardioQ-ODMÔ Oesophageal Doppler Monitoring systems; the only therapy to measure blood flow in the central circulation in real time.
The new simulator is housed in a mannequin of the upper half of the body and allows probe insertion through either mouth or nose, correct identification of aortic blood flow and probe focus. It is compatible with Deltex's CardoQ-ODM and CardioQ-ODM+ monitors, the latter incorporating an arterial pressure signal.
Deltex said the simulators will be used in a number of ways; for demonstrations on its exhibition stands, to support clinical trainer eduction, in the initial implementation phase in dedicated trainer accounts, and within surgical simulation suites at teaching hospitals.
The company is manufacturing 50 simulators in the initial production run, all of which have been allocated for deployment. Orders have been placed for parts for a second batch of 50.
Ewan Phillips, Chief Executive of Deltex Medical said, "It allows new users to develop competence and confidence with the technique of placing a probe before first use on a patient. This encourages increased numbers of potential users to have a go, demonstrates the ease of use of our products, reduces significantly the learning curve and increases the productivity of our clinical support staff."
Shares in the firm were trading 6.42% higher Tuesday morning at 14.5 pence per share.
