LONDON (Alliance News) - Deltex Medical Group PLC said Thursday that it has been granted a patent by the European Patent Officer for its flexible Doppler probes for nasal insertion.
The company produces medical technology that works by emitting a low-frequency ultrasound signal using the Doppler effect. The Doppler effect, discovered by Austrian physicist Christian Doppler, is the change in frequency of a wave for an observer moving relative to its source, such as the way in which the noise of a siren changes when it passes by.
The newly granted patent is effective until May 8. The company said this extends its eligibility for the favourable UK patent box tax regime until 2029.
"This patent is part of our programme to build protection for Deltex Medical's intellectual property through the next phase of its growth. Our flexible probes are the most recently added part of our range. They allow nasal insertion and are designed to be left in place after patients wake up," said Chief Executive Ewan Phillips in a statement.
Shares in Deltex are trading up 0.1% at 7.14 pence Thursday morning.
