Deliveroo strikes food delivery tie-up with Amazon's Prime service

15th Sep 2021 13:43

(Alliance News) - Deliveroo PLC on Wednesday said it has struck a deal which will see users of Amazon.com Inc's Prime service in the UK and Ireland receive free food order deliveries.

Deliveroo will offer all users of Amazon Prime free access to the Deliveroo Plus services for one year, allowing for free delivery on orders over GBP25.

The tie-up deepens Deliveroo's relationship with the e-commerce firm. Amazon back in May 2019 was named as the largest investor in a USD575 million fundraise by Deliveroo.

The investment finally received a full UK green light back in August of last year, following a probe by the UK's Competition & Markets Authority.

Deliveroo said: "Deliveroo Plus is the subscription service which offers Deliveroo members unlimited free delivery from all restaurant and grocery partners on orders meeting the minimum spend requirements. Plus is a key area of investment for Deliveroo and aims to deliver great value for consumers and increase retention and loyalty.

"Free delivery will be available from all Deliveroo's 50,000 restaurants, from household favourite chains like KFC and Pizza Express to local independent gems, and even from grocers and supermarkets in as little as 20 minutes."

Deliveroo shares were down 0.7% at 329.40 pence each in London on Wednesday afternoon, reversing direction after earlier having climbed to 341.90p. Shares in Just Eat Takeaway.com NV were down more significantly, however, off 3.9% to 6,352.00p.
