14th Jan 2016 11:07

LONDON (Alliance News) - Department store operator Debenhams PLC on Thursday said it has appointed Ian Cheshire, the former chief executive of B&Q owner Kingfisher Group PLC, as its chairman elect.

Cheshire will take over the chairmanship of the FTSE 250-listed company from Nigel Northridge on April 7.

"Debenhams is back in really great shape and I look forward to joining a very strong board and working with the management team to maximise the many opportunities in the business," Cheshire said.

Cheshire was the chief executive of Kingfisher from 2008 to February 2015, when he handed over to incumbent Veronique Laury.

Debenhams shares were down 0.5% to 76.4 pence on Thursday.
