Countrywide Appoints New Chief Executive From Bupa

20th May 2014 11:22

LONDON (Alliance News) - Countrywide PLC Tuesday said it has appointed a former Bupa managing director as its new chief executive, with the incumbent Grenville Turner set to move to non-executive chairman.

In a statement, the estate agency and lettings network said Alison Platt joins from health insurer Bupa, where she was managing director of Bupa's international development markets business and previously head of UK, Europe and North America. She will become CEO from the beginning of September.

"I firmly believe that there are significant opportunities available for Countrywide as an integrated player to further strengthen its business and performance through the recovery of the UK property market," Platt said in a statement.

Grenville Turner's transition to the chairmanship after more than seven years as chief executive means that David Watson, who has been acting as non-executive chairman on an interim basis since Bob Davies stepped down for personal reasons last November, will become deputy chairman and senior independent director.

Turner's move to the chairmanship was announced in February, alongside Countrywide's maiden results following its initial public offering in March. The company reported a GBP38.1 million pretax profit in 2013, a swing from the GBP10.8 million pretax loss reported a year earlier.

Countrywide shares were Tuesday quoted at 526.00 pence, down 0.6%.
