Costain Wins GBP150 Million Crossrail North East Spur Contract

10th Mar 2014 09:17

LONDON (Alliance News) - Costain Group PLC Monday said it has been awarded a GBP150 million contract by Network Rail to deliver the infrastructure and stations between Stratford in east London and Shenfield in Essex as part of the Crossrail North East spur.

Last year, Network Rail invited tenders for the majority of the Crossrail works planned for the north-east surface section. Companies invited to submit bids including Costain's UK rival Balfour Beatty PLC and German construction firm Hoschtief.

Costain will be tasked with designing and building major station improvements at Romford and Ilford, in addition to infrastructure improvements which will involve upgrading tracks and overhead electrification equipment.

Crossrail is a GBP14.8 billion project to build a 100 kilometer east-west rail link across London and due for completion in 2018.

Costain shares were trading at 277.78 pence Monday, up 4.50 pence or 1.7%.
