15th Nov 2016 09:24

LONDON (Alliance News) - Engineering services company Costain Group PLC on Tuesday said it has won a contract to handle the South Enabling Works for the High-Speed 2 rail project in the UK.

Costain will undertake the work under a joint venture with Swedish construction company Skanska AB and it will be worth GBP150.0 million to the UK company over four years.

The contract will cover essential preparatory work for the main HS2 rail programme, with work to start immediately.

"This contract win demonstrates the major role which Costain plays in delivering the UK's most urgent infrastructure needs. Costain has been selected as a trusted partner by HS2, for our commitment to taking a collaborative approach to large-scale projects, minimising disruption and delivering a best in class outcome for rail users," said Andrew Wyllie, Costain's chief executive.

Shares in Costain were up 3.4% to 357.62 pence on Tuesday.
