(Alliance News) - Costain Group PLC on Monday said it has been chosen as one of six partners in Highways England's GBP4.5 billion Smart Motorway Programme Alliance.
Shares in infrastructure construction firm Costain were up 3.2% at 81.50 pence in London at midday.
The SMP Alliance is newly created and its aim is to "deliver critical capacity and safety improvements across England's strategic road network", Costain said.
The alliance, under its ten-year framework, will deliver one of the key elements in UK government's second road investment strategy with more emphasis on improved efficiency and technology.
Contain noted its partnership with Highways England, which operates and maintains England's major A roads and motorways. Costain said it has supported previous initiatives ease congestion and improve safety through both construction programmes and technology like high-performance CCTV.
