LONDON (Alliance News) - Cohort PLC on Wednesday said one of its subsidiaries has been awarded a contract by BAE Systems PLC worth approximately GBP23 million.
Under the deal, Cohort's SEA unit will provide its External Communications System for the entire Royal Navy submarine fleet.
The contract, worth around GBP23 million, covers long lead procurement out to late 2016 and design activities to March 2015, Cohort said.
SEA already holds a contract with BAE to provide the system for five Astute-class submarines, and the new contract extends this to cover other Royal Navy submarines and further Astute boats.
It said a further significant order for the system on Royal Navy submarines also is expected in 2015.
"This is a major step forward for SEA, and confirmation that its successful ECS system provides the world-class capability that the Royal Navy needs to conduct its submarine operations. It is a substantial contract in itself and is the first stage of design and production for the full fleet," said Cohort Chief Executive Andrew Thomis.
