Codemasters Races On With F1 2020 Game As July Release Penned

15th Apr 2020 15:23

(Alliance News) - Codemasters Group Holdings PLC on Wednesday said the latest instalment of its Formula One video games will be released in July, undeterred by the Covid-19 outbreak.

The video game developer said there has been "minimal disruption" due to pandemic. The title will be available on platforms including Microsoft Corp's Xbox One and Sony Corp's Playstation 4 from July 10.

Codemasters Chief Executive Frank Sagnier said: "F1 2020 promises to be our biggest and most innovative title to date. We're bringing new game modes to our core simulation players alongside accessible features that will appeal to the casual racing fan."

In a strange turn, the video game iteration of the Formula One season could kick off before real world races do. The virus crisis has put the brakes on plans for the 2020 Formula One season to begin.

On Monday, the French grand prix, initially penned to be the 10th of the season, was the latest to be cancelled due to the virus.

"With sporting events currently on hold around the world, our F1 game is seeing incredible engagement as professional drivers, esports players and celebrities race online in the F1 Esports Virtual Grand Prix series, replicating the original F1 calendar," Sagnier added.

Codemasters shares were 1.9% lower at 260.00 pence each in London on Wednesday afternoon.
