LONDON (Alliance News) - Clipper Logistics PLC on Wednesday said it has established a joint venture with department store retailer John Lewis focused on the growing click-and-collect market.
Clipper said it will operate the service, with John Lewis to provide expertise and insight on the retail market, in addition to being a key customer for the service.
The joint venture will provide timed deliveries to stores, integrated with retailers' customer service systems to provide updates via text message on deliveries and will deliver goods to stores in roll cages with clear "parent and child" relationships between the cage and parcels in order to speed up parcel selection.
The initial click-and-collect trial with John Lewis started in the fourth quarter of 2015 in 120 branches of Waitrose, the upmarket grocer John Lewis owns. This has now been expanded to 300 Waitrose stores.
Funding for the new venture will be provided equally by Clipper and John Lewis, with profits to be shared on the same basis.
"This is a truly ground-breaking development which will revolutionise the provision of Click & Collect services to the High Street in Britain. We are delighted to have worked closely with our partners, John Lewis, to research and develop this unique service proposition which will address directly the challenges posed to retailers in this rapidly growing area of activity," said Clipper Executive Chairman Steve Parkin.
Clipper shares were up 3.4% to 328.75 pence early Wednesday.
