CityFibre Says First Phase Of Construction On York Network Completed

26th Mar 2015 09:14

LONDON (Alliance News) - CityFibre Infrastructure Holdings PLC on Thursday said its joint venture with Sky PLC and TalkTalk Telecom Group PLC has completed the first phase of construction on a city-wide, fibre-to-the-premises network in York.

The fibre-optic infrastructure company said that based on the encouraging results of the first phase, the joint venture has now approved the next phase of development, which will increase the scale of the overall project.

CityFibre said the partners will continue to develop and test fibre-to-the-premises deployment methods and scale roll-out in order to create a pure fibre network independent on BT Group PLC's Openreach infrastructure arm.

The York network is to be deployed and tested in preparation for Sky and TalkTalk to launch services later this year.

"This next phase will accelerate the deployment and will further help to determine the scalability of the infrastructure. Without the bottlenecks that exist in traditional networks, an ultra-fast fibre infrastructure will future-proof a city, offering superior quality of service and higher speeds as demand for bandwidth increases," said Greg Mesch, CityFibre's chief executive.

Shares in CityFibre were untraded Thursday morning, having last traded at 66.00 pence.
