Chaarat Gold taps South32 COO Mike Fraser as CEO after Volynets exit

24th Sep 2021 11:02

(Alliance News) - Chaarat Gold Holdings Ltd on Friday said it has hired Mike Fraser as chief executive, starting January 17.

The AIM-quoted mining company said Fraser has over 20 years experience in the global mining and metals industry.

Fraser has been chief operating officer of South32 Ltd since 2018. He previously served as president and COO of the company's Africa region from 2015. South32 is a mining and metals company based in Perth, Australia.

"During [Fraser's] time at South32 he has been directly responsible for the operations of underground mines, smelters, and project development," Chaarat notes.

"He's responsible for the group's aluminium and manganese operations in Africa and the Cerro Matoso operation in Colombia," South32 notes on its website.

From 2013 on, Fraser served as president of human resources for the miner BHP Group PLC.

Executive Chair Martin Andersson says: "[Fraser] brings a wealth of mining and metals industry experience, and I am delighted that he is joining Chaarat. His impressive track record for driving operational performance and culture will mean he is well-equipped to drive our performance going forward."

Fraser replaces Interim Chief Executive Martin Andersson. Andersson took up the role after former CEO Artem Volynets stepped down in August to take on a senior advisor role at the company.

Shares in Chaarat Gold were trading flat at 21.60 pence each in London on Friday morning.
