(Alliance News) - Ceres Power Holdings PLC on Tuesday said its first megawatt solid oxide electrolyser cell demonstrator system is now producing hydrogen.
The Horsham, England-based clean energy technology developer said the milestone is an "important step" which demonstrates the maturity of the technology, which is based at Shell PLC's technology centre in Bangalore, India.
Ceres said the megawatt-scale electrolyser has the potential to produce 600 kilograms of hydrogen per day.
It expects the operational phase of the demonstrator to show "robustness and lower operational costs".
Ceres added that data and learnings from the demonstrator system will be used to develop a commercially competitive and scalable solution for industrial processes.
"This achievement illustrates how Ceres' high efficiency technology can scale to meet the needs of industry and deliver a route to economically viable hydrogen for green steel, ammonia and synthetic fuels," said Chief Executive Phil Caldwell.
Shares in Ceres Power Holdings were up 0.2% to 72.46 pence in London on Tuesday morning.
