Centrica Hires BP Executive To Head Up Business Supply Arm

14th Sep 2018 10:17

LONDON (Alliance News) - British Gas owner Centrica PLC on Friday said it has appointed BP PLC executive Richard Hookway as the new head of Centrica Business, which supplies energy to business customers.

Hookway has spent 35 years at BP, Centrica said, having headed up the finances of the oil major's Downstream business. Most recently, he has been operations chief of BP's Global Business Services & IT arm.

He will join Centrica's board at the start of December, the same day he starts his new role. Hookway replaces Mark Hanafin, whose March 2019 retirement was announced in July.

Centrica Chief Executive Iain Conn said: "I am delighted Richard is joining Centrica as chief executive of Centrica Business. He brings with him a wealth of experience in customer-facing energy activities, including in energy marketing and trading and commodity risk management. He has spent much of his career in the UK and Europe, but has also lived in North America and knows that energy market well.

"I would also like to take this opportunity again to thank Mark Hanafin for his significant contribution to the business over the past 10 years and to wish him and his family all the very best for the future."

Centrica shares were 0.4% lower on Friday at 143.80 pence each.
